Myanmar
The Yangon-Mandalay railway, operating by Myanma Railways (MR), has a total length of 620 km, connecting Myanmar’s largest commercial city Yangon with the capital Naypyidaw and Myanmar’s second-largest commercial city Mandalay. While the increasing of passenger and cargo transport demand, it is facing lower operating speeds, delays and derailments because of the aging of its existing facilities, equipment and rolling stock. Under JICA assistance, the rehabilitation and modernization of the existing railway and related facilities have been developed. The development is separated into 2 phases which are;
Phase I: from Yangon to Toungoo approximately 270 km.
Phase II: from Taungoo – Mandalay approximately 350 km.
